New Android App: BrainDump to Notes

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Jens Bruntt has created a really cool and useful app for Android devices called BrainDump to Notes. The app allows you to quickly capture actionable items on your Android and then sync them with your Lotus Notes To-Dos in a single click.

I've only watched the video, but Jen's app looks very easy to use. The idea is sort of a cross between GyroQ and the eProductivity Mindsweep Coach. Jens himself is a long-time eProductivity user and he says the app works great with eProductivity. Excellent!

The app is available for free from the Android app market.

Maybe it's time to go nag my boss about getting me a 'Droid?...

Jens, is this a "pushing" procedure you've created with your BrainDump App., or is it a sync requiring connecting a smart phone to a computer?

Also, I've been on the hunt for software that will allow pushing between the android OS and a Mac Computer. I've been unsuccessful in finding software to accomplish this. IBM has posted they are working on this, however, it will be weeks before completion. Any suggestions?

This is push over an internet connection

To Tom:

My App will submit the Notes written on the Android Device to a Domino server using HTTP - over the internet connection that is available on the device (either WiFi or from the Mobile/Cell network).

So, you can be standing somewhere in the field with no PC or server in sight.

This app only does push FROM the device and TO Notes (Domino). Not the other way.

It really is just a Bucket in the Getting Things Done way of looking at things.

Suggestions... Depends on what you need to sync, really. But if it is PIM (Calendar, Email, Contacts (and hopefully ToDo)) - you could wait for Lotus and its Traveler client for Android.

I have seen next to no Lotus Notes to/from Android apps.

What IS your need?

I do not like plugging stuff, but if you do not have Lotus Notes and do like the GTD approach on Android devices, use Astrid, a to-do manager that allows synchronization with Remember The Milk.

And yes, I'm related to this freeware project, as a translator.

Jens, I ultimately desire is to "push" Lotus Notes (8.5.1) from my computer to my smart phone (and visa versa). I would prefer the android OS, but I could be flexible with the smart phone I utilize in order to obtain an optimal overall solution.

My components and situation are: Single user (not part of a larger organization with a server), Mac Pro Computer, OS X (Snow Leopard), Lotus Notes 8.5.1, and a smart phone yet to be determined (as stated above, preferably an android-based phone).

QUESTION: I THERE SOFTWARE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS? IF NOT, DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON MY OPTIONS?

If one of those options is to wait, do you think IBM is developing it's Lotus Notes Traveler Client for a Mac?
